The Great Ethiopian Run International 10KM offers a unique and exhilarating course through the heart of Addis Ababa, the world’s third-highest capital. Starting and finishing at the iconic Meskel Square, the route loops through the city’s vibrant downtown streets. Runners face the dual challenge of rolling hills and an average altitude of approximately 2,355 meters (nearly 8,000 feet) above sea level.
The course is lined with enthusiastic spectators, and the atmosphere is more of a street party than a traditional race. Key landmarks along the way include the historic Ghion Hotel and various roundabouts that come alive with music and dancing. The route is known for its “Fun Wave” and “Fast Wave” starts, ensuring that everyone from elite athletes to casual joggers can enjoy the scenic urban landscape.
